Sacrificing virgins to appease dragons? Not with Millie Bobby Brown! The star of ‘Stranger Things’ plays the eponymous young lady in ‘Damsel’, who fights with sword and wits against the dragon for which she is cast to death.
The fiery trailer promises a fantasy feast – and perhaps the fantasy highlight of the year on Netflix. It won’t be long until the start: “Damsel” will be released on March 8, 2024, on International Women’s Day. Is that a coincidence…?
“Damsel” was directed by Spaniard Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who was responsible for the zombie hit “28 Weeks Later” and is also associated with another fantasy project: it would be the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic ‘The Witch and the Magician’, which has not had any updates for a while. The screenplay for “Damsel” comes from Dan Mazeau (“Fast & Furious 10”).
That’s what ‘Ladies’ is about
Young Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown) must bond with the heir to a rival kingdom for the good of her people. She becomes the wife of Prince Henry (Nick Robinson), who at first seems like the perfect gentleman, but immediately after the wedding the dark plans of the prince and his parents (Ray Winstone, Robin Wright) become clear.

Their kingdom is tyrannized by a dragon, who has traditionally been satisfied with a virgin sacrifice for years. So now Elodie should be thrown to the winged lizard too. However, the cool princess does not accept that – and so she not only wants to escape the dragon’s cave alive, but also to put an end to the bloody ritual once and for all.
“Young Lady”: the book that accompanies the film
If you want to know how the story ends, you can read it, because a novel about ‘Damsel’ has already been published. And no, the Netflix film is not an adaptation of this book, this time it’s the other way around: Based on the screenplay for the feature film ‘Damsel’, ‘The Crown’s Game’ author Evelyn Sky has written a novel of the same name in collaboration with Netflix.
“Young” on Amazon*
Millie Bobby Brown also has other irons in the fire at Netflix, including of course the long-awaited fifth and final season of the hit series ‘Stranger Things’. But her “Enola Holmes” series about Sherlock Holmes’ little sister continues with “Enola Holmes 3,” and she’s working with the Russo brothers (“Avengers 4”) on the sci-fi film “The Electric State.”
