After double ‘Suits’ reunion: ‘Arrow’ star takes leading role in spin-off of the big hit series

The legal series ‘Suits’ ran from 2011 to 2019 – and was extremely successful, as its nine seasons illustrate. But the series really took off in the US last year, where it streamed on Netflix and even broke several records. This meant that the series’ cast was in demand at the biggest advertising event of the TV season, the Super Bowl.

At the mega event, which often promotes products with big names such as Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, the main actors Gabriel Macht (played by Harvey Specter) and Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross) appeared as a duo among others celebrities for a cell phone company, while her colleagues Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt), Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson) and Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulson) promoted a cosmetic product.

After this renewed attention, the announcement of the lead actor for the spin-off may have been very deliberately placed.

Stephen Amell in “Suits: LA”

Stephen Amellwhich will be familiar to many series fans from the DC superhero series ‘Arrow’, will be used for ‘Suitable for: LAto attorney Ted Black. After having problems with the judiciary in the comic series and needing legal assistance due to party escapades and of course his work as a vigilante, he will now act as such himself. A former New York prosecutor, Black handles crime and entertainment cases at his Los Angeles law firm.

The official synopsis for the series provides a few more details: “His company is at a crisis point. To survive, he must take on a role he has despised his entire career. Ted is surrounded by an amazing group of characters who test their loyalty to both Ted and each other while they can’t avoid mixing their personal and professional lives. All this happens as events years ago caused Ted to slowly unravel everything and everyone he loved behind him.

The cast of the other roles should also be announced fairly soon. Additionally, fans will naturally be curious to see if some of the familiar characters from the original series stopped by to make guest appearances in the spin-off. Some actors have already publicly expressed their interest. But you shouldn’t expect a performance from Meghan Markle.

Aaron Korsch, who also created ‘Suits’, is responsible for the spin-off. Filming for just one pilot episode is scheduled for March. If this is well received and an entire season is subsequently ordered, it will then be shown in the US on the major television network NBC. This is another indication of the increased popularity of the franchise. The original was broadcast at the time by the much smaller cable channel USA Network, which belongs to the same company.

There was already a spin-off of ‘Suits’ on USA Network, the series ‘Pearson’, but it was canceled after just one season with ten episodes. But it was launched just after ‘Suits’ ended in 2019 and thus well before the new wave of popularity.

It is still unknown how the new series “Suits: LA” could come to Germany. However, we think it is highly likely that, following the success of ‘Suits’, Netflix will seek global streaming rights after the TV airings if the project is greenlit.
