“PS I love you” is a romantic comedy – really fun for the heart and soul. Who thinks of stars covered in blood, shot out eyes and hospital stays? But how Gerard Butler at a performance in the “The Drew Barrymore Show“ revealed that his co-actress suffered a serious accident on the set of the film Hilary Swank transported to hospital.
A suspender ball becomes a weapon
The “300” action star references a scene in which Gerard Butler dances around the room in boxers and suspenders: “I literally shot that scene for a day and a half and had to dance like an idiot in the suspenders… and I was like, ‘I can’t believe that I am doing this.’”
However, after a few good shots, the alligator clip of the suspenders got stuck in a television – with major consequences: “The clip, an alligator clip, stayed on the TV as I crawled towards her. It came loose and flew over my head, hitting her on the head and cutting her head. I literally cut them open. You could even see the teeth marks [des Krokodilclips] to see. She had to be taken to hospital.“
Collapse in boxers
The PS I Love You set was in a bit of an uproar after this incident and as Hillary Swank was rushed to hospital, Gerard Butler – still in his boxing trunks – was understandably quite emotional:
“I sat there in just my Irish boxers, boots and a pair of socks and just started crying. […] I thought, ‘I gave Hilary Swank a scar. I almost put her eye out […]!’”
Fortunately, the injury was ultimately less serious than expected and the recordings were able to continue without major complications. We are also convinced of the RomCom and come to the following conclusion in our 3.5 star review:
“’PS I love you’ is a rare example of classic emotional entertainment cinema for an adult audience of both sexes. In the best Hollywood tradition, big feelings are told in an intelligent, sensitive and funny way with charismatic stars, attractive supporting roles and precise dialogue. Emotions that viewers who are willing to work with can also give free rein here.”
