Henry Cavill confirms his big comeback as Superman – what can we expect, what are the problems?

It shouldn’t be a secret anymore and Henry Cavill reveals it again via Instagram video: In the end credits scene of “Black Adam” he appears as Superman. We have already written down how this comeback came about in a very short time.

So now it’s time to look ahead. Finally, in the video, Cavill not only thanks fans for their support and patience, but also makes a “promise”: they will be “rewarded” for it. The cameo is “just a tiny taste of all things to come”.

But what’s coming?

“Man Of Steel 2” and “Black Adam vs. Superman” are very likely

It is suspected that Warner will now be pushing “Man Of Steel 2” after years of waiting. Corresponding reports already exist. The sequel is already in the works. Producer Charles Roven (“Justice League”) would hand out feelers to find someone to write the screenplay. There is already an internal wish list for this.

Above all, Superman should play an important role in the duo with Black Adam in the future. Dwayne Johnson was instrumental in Cavill’s return after the British ‘The Witcher’ star was previously sorted out from Warner and DC. In that regard, Johnson and his production partner Hiram Garcia made it clear that they have big plans for Superman and Black Adam.

These shouldn’t be limited to a “Black Adam vs. Superman” movie. Instead, through a longer story, they want to “demonstrate that these two characters exist in the same universe and often interact with each other, either on the same page or on opposite pages.”

There are problems – but they can be solved

You still need to make a few small question marks. It was recently announced that Henry Cavill does not yet have a new contract with Warner. The “Black Adam” cameo came together on such short notice that it was a rush to sign a deal for that one performance. However, the video release could be an indication that the situation has changed. The necessary talks may have come to an end in recent days. And even if it doesn’t, we don’t think it will fail because of the contractual situation. Cavill and Warner are both interested, and in Johnson there is an influential star who will make sure his friend’s demands are met, but not over the top.

On the other hand, the fickleness at Warner and DC over the years should be a little more concerning. There have been numerous management and associated strategy changes lately. No one can say for sure what it will look like at the top of the group in two or three years, especially as the search for a new DC movie boss, which has been arduous after several cancellations, is still ongoing. So you can’t rule out that everything at Warner and DC will be jettisoned again in a few years – especially if movies don’t perform.

Another Superman appearance from Cavill (either first in his own movie, again with Black Adam, or even as a cameo in a 2023 project) is so very, very likely. How many Superman appearances it will eventually be is written in the stars. First of all, all DC fans who have been wanting Cavill to return as Superman for years can rejoice.
