We still have to wait a long time for “Avatar 3”. The theatrical release isn’t until December 17, 2025. Nevertheless, more and more information about the highly anticipated fantasy sequel is now emerging, as well as the reveal of an unexpected return.
A villain that audiences thought was dead after “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” will apparently be back in “Avatar 3.” The actor confirmed this Matt Gerard in a now-deleted story on his Instagram account. Gerald played Corporal Lyle Wainfleet in “Avatar” and “Avatar 2” – and announced beneath a photo of his character in Na’vi form:
“We’re back… A3, all of you. It’s getting crazy.”
Lyle Wainfleet is still alive? We never saw his body!
In the big action finale of Avatar 2, Lyle Wainfleet fell overboard and was never seen again. He was generally considered dead, but an old Hollywood rule goes: if you don’t see a corpse, no one’s really dead… And so the screenwriters must have found a way for Wainfleet to survive the battle on Pandora.
He may then team up again with Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), who is still among the living after his son Spider (Jack Champion) saved him. It remains to be seen how this fits into the many new story elements. Among other things, there is a completely new Na’vi people. The Fire Na’vi do not become further allies of Jake (Sam Worthington), Ney’tiri (Zoe Saldana) and Co., but rather new adversaries. Could the “evil Na’vi” be allies for Quaritch and Wainfleet?
