A ‘New Game of Thrones’ spin-off about Daenerys’ ancestors is being planned

Another “Game of Thrones” project about the Targaryens is in development. This time by author Mattson Tomlin.

HBO is developing a new ‘Game of Thrones’ series, reports ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ (THR).

The streaming service is working with Mattson Tomlin, a screenwriter who worked on Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ and is co-writing the upcoming sequel. He is also writing the comedy film adaptation of Keanu Reeves’ “BRZRKR” and an animated series “Terminator”.

The new series is about Aegon Targaryen, an ancestor of Daenerys Targaryen, and is a direct prequel to ‘House of the Dragon’. It tells the story of the bloody and brutal conquest of Westeros by the Targaryen. The story follows Aegon the Conqueror as he conquers the continent of Westeros with his sisters (who were also his wives) Rhaenys and Visenya and their dragons. In just two years, Aegon managed to unite six of the Seven Kingdoms, with only Dorne successfully resisting.

A THR source describes the project as a “back to basics” version of George RR Martin’s fantasy universe.

Since the 2019 finale of ‘Game of Thrones’, many possible spin-offs have been discussed, some even making it into development, while others were cancelled.

So far, two spin-offs have been made: “House of the Dragon,” which begins its second season on Sky Show this summer, and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” which begins production this year and of which is based on Martin’s books “Tales of Dunk and Egg”.
