Figures on how many ski areas there actually are in Switzerland vary depending on the source: there are probably just over 300, but of course individual village lifts are also important. Even more surprising figures: Switzerland has 7,000 kilometers of pistes, 5,500 kilometers of cross-country ski tracks and 500 kilometers of toboggan runs. For comparison: Switzerland’s entire border with five neighboring countries is “only” 1,950 kilometers long. 2.5 million Swiss people actively ski, using approximately 1,900 ski lifts. If you’re wondering how many après-ski bars there are, unfortunately the number hasn’t been tallied yet.

Perhaps it is precisely because of this diversity: most skiers probably only know two or three areas really well. Do you know what mountains are called? Do you know the names of different ski lifts, restaurants and the most beautiful slopes? Are you one of them, or do you get on your skis every few years? It doesn’t matter: anyone can prove themselves in our test above and win a daily ticket in the draw.
