Amazon pulls books on King Charles III cancer

Amazon has suspended the sale of several books about the British King Charles III. which were allegedly written using artificial intelligence (AI) tools, after Buckingham Palace reported that they contained false information about the monarch’s cancer.

According to the Mail on Sunday tabloid, royal sources have indicated that any work speculating about the diagnosis and treatment of the disease is “intrusive, insensitive and full of inaccuracies”, warning that the royal’s legal representatives remain very close on the matter.

The books apparently deal with the possibility of Charles III suffering, among other things, Cancer skin or prostate, although Buckingham Palace did not elaborate on this after the news broke last Monday.

Amazon confirmed that it had removed titles that “violated our publishing standards” and reiterated that it constantly evaluates “the emergence of new technologies.”

“Although we do allow the content he creates AI, “We do not allow AI-generated content that violates our content standards, including content that creates a disappointing user experience,” the online sales platform said.

British newspaper The Telegraph reported that all the recalled books were written by anonymous authors and were “self-published” on Amazon’s website.

In particular, other media identify the biography ‘Battle of the King: Charles III and his fight against cancer’, included in the catalog of the platform on February 5, the day when it was announced that the monarch was suffering from this disease.

King’s disease was recently diagnosed while he was undergoing surgery for a benign prostate enlargement, without specifying what type of cancer it was.

The monarch, however, continues to perform his specific state functions, such as signing laws or weekly phone calls with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

However, King Charles III has canceled a planned official visit to Canada after he was diagnosed with cancer, Canadian public broadcaster CBC reported Monday.

The British monarch is also the sovereign of Canada and delegates his duties as head of state to the Governor General, a person chosen by the Prime Minister of Canada.
