“Mo’ Better Blues”, “Malcolm But that’s not all, because as has now been announced, finds the duo for a remake of the classic “Between heaven and hell“ (in English: “High And Low”) together again.

The original dates from 1963 and was directed by one of the greatest directors who ever lived: Japan’s Akira Kurosawa (“The Seven Samurai”). The film is based on the crime novel ‘King’s Ransom’ by Ed McBain. This is all about a rich manager whose child is allegedly kidnapped by criminals. But they make a mistake and kidnap his driver’s son. The manager pays the ransom anyway and soon finds himself, as the title suggests, between heaven and hell…

First in theaters, then on AppleTV+

Denzel Washinton will star in the reboot of ‘Between Heaven and Hell’. Not only will Spike Lee be in the director’s chair, but he also co-wrote the script with Alan Fox. The latter previously appeared as an actor in the series “Model Caterer’s” and the film “The English Teacher – A Lesson in Love” alongside Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear.

Behind ‘Between Heaven and Hell’ are two major production companies: A24, which made its name with films such as ‘Midsommar’, ‘The Lighthouse’, ‘The Whale’ and ‘The Iron Claw’, and Apple (“Napoleon”, “Killers Of The Flower Moon”). While A24 will handle the theatrical release of the remake, Apple will then add the thriller to the catalog of its own streaming service AppleTV+. Filming is scheduled for next month.
