Although ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ divides the fan base of the ‘Star Trek’ camp, the series’ importance to the popular science fiction brand remains undeniable. Since its launch in 2017, the production’s success has spawned a slew of other series in the streaming sector: the delayed ‘Next Generation’ reunion ‘Star Trek: Picard’, the turbulent animated fun ‘Lower Decks’ as well as the excellent Old school series “Strange New Worlds” could all benefit from the success of “Discovery” or, as in the case of “SNW,” are directly tied to the series.
It’s been clear for a while that ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ will end with its fifth season. And the streaming home is also known: you get access to the last 10 episodes on Paramount+. At least a specific start date for season 5 has now been given for the American version of Paramount+: the first episode starts on April 4 and the remaining episodes will be published weekly after that.

So far there is no information whether the starting gun for season 5 will also fall on this date in this country. However, because such major productions often have a worldwide release date, we expect that we will also be able to enjoy the new episodes in this country shortly after the American release. When more detailed information about this becomes available, we will update the article accordingly.
‘Star Trek: Discovery’ is getting a feature film spin-off
By the way, fans of “Star Trek: Discovery” don’t have to be sad after the series ends. Of “Star Trek: Section 31“, the series will finally get a spin-off – and even in the form of a feature film. This spin-off had been planned since the first season of the science fiction production – initially as a series, but now the spin-off has been turned into a film project.
In terms of content, “Star Trek: Section 31” will follow the end of the third “Star Trek: Discovery” season. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”) will reprise the role of the chastened Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who now returns to her mirror universe – and hopes to change things for the better. As the title suggests, she will also be working with the Federation Intelligence Section again.
Unfortunately, the film will not be in theaters, but will be coming directly to Paramount+. It is still unclear exactly when that will be. However, since filming has already started, the movie could come to the streaming service as early as late 2024 or 2025.
