Besides the ‘Jon Snow’ series with Kit Harington, there is currently only one other ‘Game Of Thrones’ spin-off that fans of George RR Martin’s fantasy world are so excited about: a series about Aegon the Conqueror. And exactly this one “Aegon” series is now the one on HBO Loud went to work.
As one of many ideas, the ‘Aegon’ series had been in very early development for some time. Due to the popularity of the prequel ‘House Of The Dragon’, which is also mainly about the Targaryen family, this will probably happen Series about Aegon Targaryen and his conquest of Westeros is now considerably higher on HBO’s priority list. And finally, this series will also include one of the elements that makes “Game Of Thrones” so popular: dragons!
“Aegon’s Conquest”: Balerion is not to be missed
The ‘Aegon’ series will not only feature many dragons, but also the largest dragon ever depicted in George RR Martin’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ universe: Balerion. No other dragon ever grew as great as Aegon’s steed, Balerion the Black Dread.
Only Vhagar, who we already know from ‘House Of The Dragon’, would have approached these dimensions. It is unknown if any larger dragons lived in Valyria before Balerion’s time, but he is certainly the largest to ever live in Westeros. It is said of Balerion that his wings could completely block out the sun when he flew over a village.
“Aegon’s Conquest” not only has the benefit of popular dragon action, but also that fans have already been introduced to the history of the Targaryens through “House Of The Dragon” – Aegon has also been mentioned several times in the series. The ‘Aegon’ series would therefore be a direct prequel to ‘House Of The Dragon’, would describe how Aegon Targaryen, with his sister wives Rhaenys and Visenya of Valyria, conquered Westeros and united six of the seven kingdoms (only Dorne resisted).
The author of ‘The Batman 2’ is writing the script
It is also already known who will write the bloody and brutal story of this conquest: “The Batman2“-Author Mattson Tomlin writes the script for “Aegon’s Conquest”, the current working title of the series. Tomlin is currently responsible for the script for the comedy film adaptation ‘BRZRKR’ with Keanu Reeves for Netflix and is developing an animated ‘Terminator’ series for the streaming service as showrunner. He was also involved in Matt Reeves’ first “The Batman”, but was not officially credited in the credits.
How further reported in his exclusive post, According to a source, the “Aegon” series will take a “back to basics” approach to the “Game Of Thrones” universe – although you can only interpret what that means. We’d suspect they’ll continue to focus on familiar figures from the ‘Game Of Thrones’ parent series, for example familiar families and dragons, rather than exploring completely new aspects of Martin’s fantasy world. An official confirmation of the project from HBO is still pending.
First up is season 2 of “House Of The Dragon”.
“House Of The Dragon” will enter its second season in the summer of 2024. The spin-off “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” is already in the works, with the first season likely to be released between season 2 and season 3 of “House Of The Dragon”. There is no plan yet for the ‘Aegon’ series, which has yet to be given the green light for production.
