Despite good reviews and a loyal fan base, the horror series ‘Hannibal’, which revolves around the famous psychiatrist and cannibal Hannibal Lecter and stars Mads Mikkelsen in the complex role, was canceled after just three seasons on the American network NBC. The series also has an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars among FILMSTARTS users, making it one of the best representatives of its genre to this day.
A possible continuation of the series was all the more desirable, which was repeatedly sparked by statements made by series creator Bryan Fuller and star Hugh Dancy a few years ago. However, things have become suspiciously quiet around the project lately, and so many fans have understandable doubts about whether we can ever actually expect a fourth season of the hit series. But now Mads Mikkelsen has spoken out – and is giving ‘Hannibal’ fans hope again.
Mads Mikkelsen still believes in ‘Hannibal’
The actor explains this in an interview with that the “Hannibal” team is still enthusiastic about the project: “It’s no secret that everyone who was part of the cast and Bryan [Fuller] wants to come back. The point is to find a new home for it and so far nothing concrete has been achieved. I don’t know why that is the case. We love this show and it seems like there are a lot of people who feel the same way.
According to Mikkelsen, series creator Bryan Fuller already has “some ideas” about continuing the series: “I can’t reveal anything yet, in case we actually get started on it, but I’m sure they have something planned .” In the past, Fuller has stated that he could imagine the plot of “The silence of the lambs‘to include in the series, while the relationship between FBI profiler Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter remains central. Hugh Dancy confirmed the plan in 2017.
After ‘Hannibal’ was canceled by NBC, the series was put up for sale to Amazon and Netflix, among others. However, the streaming empires turned down a sequel at the time. Will Fuller and Co. make another attempt a few years later? Meanwhile, the series creator launched the fantasy hit ‘American Gods’ and also made Mikkelsen a bigger hit in international cinema through films like ‘The Rush’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets’. here…
