From the outside, the underground playboy mansion looks like one of many ordinary homes in a quiet Las Vegas community. However, this house has been for sale for over a year. It’s not the seemingly exorbitant $6 million price tag that’s putting off buyers, but the property’s reputation. The basement contains an underground playground that is rumored to be heavily used by a secret swingers club.
Swingers club in air raid shelter
During the Cold War, a millionaire named Jerry Henderson built a huge shelter on 1,700 square meters of land in 1978. He later had an atomic bomb-proof underground house with a swimming pool and a garage built.
After Henderson’s death, his widow Mary had a regular, two-story single-family house built on the shelter six years later. He lived there until his death, before the so-called “Society for the Conservation of Endangered Species” acquired the property from his inheritance in 2014. They completely renovated the bunker, turning it into an original 1970s-style party scene known locally as the “Underground Playboy Mansion.”
The infamous basement has three bedrooms, a stripper pole, a dance floor with a disco ball and a jacuzzi – completely safe from the eyes of nosy neighbors, of course. The walls are painted with wild motifs, and the terrace is decorated with artificial trees and plants. You can go down to the ground floor of the house by elevator. For music connoisseurs: The house was featured in Imagine Dragons’ “Monday” music video in 2021.
The owner wanted to sell the house for 18 million dollars in 2018, but this was not possible. As of February 2023, the property was offered for sale for $12 million less. (cth)
