Did Griselda Blanco and Pablo Escobar turn? The quote at the beginning of the Netflix series “Griselda” explains it

With ‘Griselda’, the series adaptation of the life of drug lord Griselda Blanco is currently on Netflix due to their unscrupulous nature. “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara will take on the role of the historical figure for six episodes.

At the beginning of the first episode, a quote appears from a no less famous and infamous figure in the Colombian drug cartel – namely Pablos Escobar, who said during his lifetime: “The only man I was ever afraid of was a woman named Griselda Blanco.” But what connection is there between the two cocaine princes – and will Pablo Escobar appear in the Netflix series?

Pablo Escobar and Griselda Blanco are said to be in a relationship

Griselda Blanco and Pablo Escobar were both active in the Colombian drug trade in the 1970s and 1980s. The drug lord is even said to have once worked for Escobar, who led the Medellin Cartel for decades until Blanco reportedly had one of Escobar’s men murdered, which greatly angered the cartel leader. Due to their connection within the same environment and their equally uncompromising assertiveness in the dangerous matters, there were sometimes even rumors that they were in a romantic relationship – but this was never officially confirmed. In any case, Escobar’s quote confirms that the two were fully aware of each other’s existence.

The true crime series does not elaborate on the alleged connection between the two, beyond the original quote, and does not bring back Pablo Escobar as a separate character. This opportunity would have arisen mainly because the creative team around the series “Narcos” out Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard And Erik Nieuwman is also behind “Griselda”. – while ‘Narcos’ director Andrés Baiz also took the director’s chair for the new Netflix hit. In ‘Narcos’ Pablo Escobar was played by Wagner Moura.

Instead of emphasizing the political impact of the Medellin cartel, as in ‘Narcos’, ‘Griselda’ focuses entirely on the life and personal development of Griselda Blanco. This may be the reason behind the decision not to lose the intense focus of the series with the appearance of Escobar.

However, Escobar and Blanco share another similarity in their series’ legacy: lawsuits have been filed against both “Narco” and “Griselda” by their respective families. You can read what it’s all about here:
