Today on TV: This vampire horror became world famous – but the reason is very tragic

While the international trade press hardly cared about ‘Queen of the Damned’, sexy vampire horror was still on everyone’s lips in the early 2000s. But the reason for this was not pleasant: The lead actress died before the film’s release in 2002 Aaliyah in a plane crash on August 25, 2001. The artist previously enjoyed great success as an R’n’B singer, gaining her first acting experience in the 2000 martial arts actioner ‘Romeo Must Die’ alongside Jet Li.

It is also interesting that ‘Queen of the Damned’ is connected to one of the best vampire films of all time – namely ‘Interview with a Vampire’ starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst. The film, like “Interview with a Vampire”, is based on novels by Anne Rice (in this case “The Queen of the Damned” and “The Prince of Darkness”) and shows us the young Lestat de Lioncourt, previously played by Tom Cruise was embodied.

That’s what ‘Queen of the Damned’ is about

The attractive vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Stuart Townsend) becomes a megastar overnight as the singer of a gothic metal band. In his melancholic lyrics he reveals great secrets about the life and wisdom of the vampire guild. It doesn’t take long before he turns the other undead against him – and they immediately start hunting him.

The case is complicated for the graceful vampire queen Akasha (Aaliyah). Although she competes with the musical bloodsucker, she is also incredibly attracted to him. She also has competition from the mortal Jesse Reeves (Marguerite Moreau), who is also in love with Lestat. This means that the vampire not only has to protect himself from his peers, but also finds himself between two women who both want him for themselves…
