When you think of Spider-Man and his cinematic outings like ‘No Way Home’ or ‘Across The Spider-Verse’, FSK-18 imagery probably doesn’t come to mind. And that lies somewhere in the nature of things, After all, the adventures of Peter Parker and Miles Morales are stories that are mainly aimed at a young audience. Of course, there are also storylines that are clearly intended for an adult readership and that touch on the darker aspects of human life (after all, Spider fans have grown with their hero). And yet, the Spider-Man character is still an ideal entry-level hero for young comic book nerds.
But perhaps there will soon be a dark and brutal appearance by the otherwise friendly neighborhood spider in the cinema. The Twitter scooper @CanWeGetToast (via ), who has proven to be a fairly reliable source in the past, has shared information that an R-rated Spider-Man movie (the US equivalent of the FSK-18 rating) is planned. This means that these young people under the age of 17 would not be accessible without the supervision of an adult.
Will Spider-Punk be the main character?
This would be a new film from Sony Pictures Animation, the studio that also made ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ and its predecessor.Spider-Man: A New Universe“is responsible. Both big-screen outings were well received by both the trade press and audiences – which obviously makes us optimistic about a possible R-rated animated film.
However, there is currently no reliable information about which character should be central to the plot. The logical choice, which is of course already making the rounds on fan forums and social networks, would be Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk. He is a social outsider and is always in conflict with the ‘law’ in his home world. He lives in a world where Osborn’s VENOM forces oppress the people of New York. Moreover, in ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ he is already significantly older than Miles Morales and would therefore be better suited for a dark, bloody Spider-Man film.
Of course, these are all just rumors, but after the amazing animated adventures from the Spider-world, we certainly wouldn’t say no to an adult Spider-Man outing.
