Until a few weeks ago, Disney was celebrating an anniversary: in 2023, the studio that shaped generations of young and young at heart will celebrate its 100th anniversary. The company celebrated this with all kinds of activities: the president of the Disney animation division chose the 10 best short films in Disney history in an interview with FILMSTARTS.
In addition, an impressive collector’s edition was released with the “Disney Classics Limited Edition”. It is dedicated to full-length animated films that surprise young and old with unforgettable characters, catchy songs and enchanting worlds. Now you can celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary at a bargain price: the 60 DVD “Disney Classics Limited Edition” is currently available on Amazon for less than 163 euros!
“Disney Classics Limited Edition” (DVD) at Amazon*
That’s the equivalent of just 2.72 euros per film! Currently you can’t get the DVD box as cheap as a new item anywhere else online. If you prefer the numerous Disney classics in HD, the edition has also been released as a Blu-ray version.

Both boxes were only produced in limited editions and are updates of the Disney Classics sets from 2020, which still contained 56 films. And if you’re confused by the different runtimes of the Blu-ray and DVD box sets:
The DVD box therefore only lasts a little more than 81 hours, while the other set offers more than 84 hours because films on DVD play a little faster. However, Blu-rays maintain the original intended playback speed. For several dozen films, the difference in playing time is several hours…
A magical journey through the history of animation
The limited luxury boxes contain the first 60 films marketed in Germany under the ‘Disney Classics’ banner. This series begins with the 1937 animated landmark ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ and extends to the computer-animated musical ‘Encanto’, whose soundtrack became a worldwide phenomenon.
Disney’s latest feature-length animated films, the science-fantasy adventure ‘Strange World’ and the fairy tale ‘Wish’ are not included in the set. But even without them, you can look forward to a detailed and varied foray into animation styles and genres:
In addition to timeless, musical classics such as ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Lion King’, there is also the satirical comedy ‘Zoomania’ and the visually impressive art experiment ‘Fantasia’. The set also includes cult action-adventures such as “Atlantis – The Secret of the Lost City,” as well as “Treasure Planet” and the smash hit “Moana,” which will soon be made into an actual movie starring Dwayne Johnson.
Important to know: The Blu-ray box contains 60 films, nine of which are only on DVD. These include the psychedelic party film ‘Three Caballeros’ with Donald Duck as a lovelorn dream dancer and the cuddly, good-natured short story collection ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh’.
You can find all these movies too with a subscription to Disney+*, but a collector’s box in special packaging is more appealing than just the idea of having access to streaming. In addition, drives that have already been purchased are not susceptible to Internet disruptions and someone can take them away from you overnight for licensing reasons.
Once again the new canon is immortalized
What may be of interest to die-hard Disney fans: Like the previous Disney Classics boxes, the new sets are not based on the ‘Walt Disney Masterpieces’ canon, as it was called for decades. Instead, they follow the relatively new marketing numbering of Disney classics.
This means: the episodic cartoon “Make Mine Music” from 1946, which was never released in its entirety in Germany, is missing. So that the fade-in at the beginning of “Rapunzel – Newly Tangled”, which describes the comedy adventure musical as the 50th Disney classic, does not surprise anyone, the previously released computer-animated comedy “Tierisch Wild” is included.
The film was “only” co-financed and distributed by Disney, but was animated outside the company. But in 100 years of corporate history, some confusion about the film pedigree is probably inevitable…
