You know it from your own experience: you get to know a new person, spend a lot of time with him and at some point you reach a level where you confide details about your own life. Naturally in the hope that these will not be disclosed to third parties. This applies not only to the average consumer, but even more clearly to people in public life; after all, the press is hungry to exploit intimacy.
Anne Hathaway (“The Dark Knight Rises”), however, got carried away, a mystery about the Hollywood legend Robert de Niro (“Killers Of The Flower Moon”) – which she would soon regret. The two filmed the comedy ‘You Never Stop Learning’ together in 2015. In a conversation with The actress then revealed that Robert De Niro was a big fan of the reality TV show ‘The Bachelor’. As evidence, she even cited an email in which De Niro wrote her that he loved the format.

Anne Hathaway had to back up
At the time, the report quickly went viral and, if we’re being completely honest, the revelation might have made Robert De Niro a little uncomfortable at best, but nothing more. The fact that the two-time Oscar winner might be a fan of “The Bachelor” wouldn’t hurt his career or his personal life. However, there is a catch. Because, as Hathaway would later learn, De Niro was just having fun, forcing the actress to come back:
In an interview, Hathaway stated: “He actually doesn’t like the show at all. He was being sarcastic and I just don’t understand sarcasm in email form. I told the world he liked The Bachelor. That was really bad. […] He is a quiet man. He doesn’t make a million jokes a minute. What he does is very important to him. He has a lot of respect for everyone in the crew and takes what he does so seriously, even though it’s a comedy.
Anne Hathaway has probably learned her lesson that it is better not to make public certain things that have been communicated confidentially, no matter how insignificant they may seem. Ultimately, it wasn’t Robert De Niro who suffered — though it’s unclear how he feels about Hathaway making this “secret” public — but the “Interstellar” star himself, as their conversation ultimately backfired on them.
