Reunion after 34 (!) years: ‘Echo’ brings together a couple from one of the greatest Western epics of all time

With ‘Echo’, an indigenous heroine got her own Marvel series for the first time. Much more than in her MCU debut in ‘Hawkeye’, the spin-off now actually focuses on the roots of Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox). The deaf ex-underworld boss returns to her home in Oklahoma, where she must come to terms with her past and her origins.

The community she grew up in is made up primarily of the descendants of Choctaw natives – all of whom are played by actors who themselves have native roots. And some of them are not strangers.
