Maybe you have ice in your wine right now, but the thought of cola in your vine juice makes you roll your eyes? Then you’re probably like most wine lovers in this country. But wait, in some corners of the world this strange station wagon has long been socially acceptable.

In Spain, Calimocho took the reins of the red wine and cola mix that has been around for more than a century. Equal amounts of cola and red wine are used in the sparkling drink. Calimocho with a few ice cubes and a slice of lemon is very popular in Spain, especially during the summer months.

Red wine and cola mix around the world

I have experienced many times mixing cola with red wine in China. The bold combination is also available in many restaurants and bars in South Africa and Argentina, albeit under different names. In South Africa you have to want Katemba, the Argentinians know what you mean by Jugo de Jesus.

But now for the big question: Is this allowed? Obvious! The world of wine is vast, colorful and diverse; There is something for everyone. How stylish it is is open to debate. Personally, I understand those who have a hard time reducing red wine to a simple mixed drink. Especially with higher-quality red wines, mixing them with cola is decadent.

But at the end of the day, it’s up to each of us to decide which form of red wine brings us the greatest joy; regardless of whether the wine is drunk neat, on the rocks, with cola, or with some other crazy concoction. Diversity is what makes the wine world truly exciting. So be brave, try new things and discover what works best for you.
