
In 2010, the first part of the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ series hit local cinemas and took the hearts of animation fans by storm. Two no less successful sequels followed in the coming years, bringing the franchise to a total of approximately $1.6 billion at the box office.
Last February, fans were blessed with the news that the fantasy hit would be getting its own live-action adaptation – and from the best possible hands for this endeavor. None other than Dean DeBlois writes and directs the live-action remake, who was already responsible for the three popular animated films.
Now there will be another reunion with an old acquaintance from the original trilogy in the live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon”. How reports, encounters action star Gerard Butler has been added to the cast list of the fantasy film and this time will also visually portray the role of Viking chief Stoick, having already lent his voice to the animated series character in the English original.

Joining Butler in the cast are “The Last Of Us” star Nico Parker, who will take on the role of young Astrid, as well as Mason Thames (“The Black Phone”), who will play the lead role of the teenage dragon rider and son of the chief Hiccup.

Although the DreamWorks animated series “How to Train Your Dragon” featured a notable voice cast in its English original, including Jay Baruchel (“FUBAR”), Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) and America Ferrara (“Barbie”), there is still It is unknown if any of the actors will return for the live-action remake in a larger role or cameo.
The live-action film was originally supposed to hit theaters on March 14, 2025. After ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ also suffered from postponements last year due to the writers and actors strikes in Hollywood, The fantasy film will now hit German cinemas on June 12, 2025.
