Even more martial arts expertise for sci-fi actioner ‘Warpath’: this is one of the most exciting projects for genre fans

We’ve known for a while that director Liam O’Donnell is finally working on a new film. The director behind “Beyond Skyline” and “Skylines” is currently filming a title in Indonesia called “Warpath“, which remixes action and science fiction. O’Donnell, who is a big genre fan himself and also of the podcast is active, has brought a wealth of expertise on board.

We’ve known for a while that ‘The Raid’ star Iko Uwais will be playing the lead role. At the side of the martial arts expert, who was last seen in ‘The Expendables 4’ in cinemas, is his colleague from ‘The Raid’ days, Yahan Ruhian. The two also worked with director O’Donnell on ‘Beyond Skyline’.

A few days ago, rumors that had been circulating for a while came true. Scott Adkins (“One Shot”) revealed around the turn of the year that he was in Indonesia filming a new action movie. He did not want to give any information yet. After Adkins posted another photo from training with Iko Uwais’ stunt team, it was essentially confirmation that he was aboard “Warpath” — especially since Adkins captioned the photo “#Warpath.”

Meanwhile, Liam O’Donnell confirmed the personality in the new edition of his podcast. The combination of Adkins, Uwais, Ruhian and O’Donnell should definitely make genre and martial arts fans click.

By the way, this will be the second meeting for Scott Adkins and Iko Uwais – and the chance for some sort of revenge. In “Triple Threat” (see image from our article), Scott Adkins got to beat up his Indonesian colleague and was subsequently impressed with how well he adapted to the scene. After all, some other action stars have a hard time losing in a fight. At the time, Adkins promised Uwais that he could one day kill him in a movie. “Warpath” could now offer the opportunity…

Is “Warpath” even “Skyline 4”?

Not much is known about ‘Warpath’ yet. According to circulating information, Iko Uwais plays a petty criminal who stumbles upon a mysterious, powerful artifact that has the power to change the world. He soon finds himself in the middle of a war between two factions…

There are also rumors going around that ‘Warpath’ is not a standalone film, but rather a continuation of the ‘Skyline’ series. The alien invasion franchise began in 2010 with Skyline, to which O’Donnell contributed the screenplay. However, the film by special effects experts Colin Strause and Greg Strause was disappointing. For the sequels”Beyond Horizon” And “SkylinesLiam O’Donnell took over the direction himself and shifted the focus more to action.

There is still no confirmation whether “Warpath” is really “Skyline 4” or an independent film. If there is a sequel, the question remains whether Iko Uwais will suddenly play a different character than he did in ‘Beyond Skyline’. In any case, the brief description of the content does not really fit with the previous trilogy and its role in the second film. An Instagram post from Uwais could give a hint that it is a sequel after all. While preparing for the shoot, the actor released a video. He not only called it ‘#Warpath’, but also ‘#Skyline’.

However, director Liam O’Donnell revealed on social media that he had been thinking about the idea for ‘Warpath’ since 2014. That speaks again “Skyline 4” – except he had the idea for the fourth film before he even knew he could make a second and third part.

Let us surprise you. With filming going on since January 3, 2024, ‘Warpath’ could be released later this year, but no later than 2025.
