After the big finale on Netflix: will ‘The Crown’ get a seventh season after all? That’s what the creator of the series says

With ‘The Crown’, Netflix launched one of the streaming platform’s biggest series in 2016. The more than eight decades of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign were covered in six seasons. The main character was played by Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton for two seasons each. In mid-December, the series finally celebrated its grand finale on Netflix, releasing fans with the emotional wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, in which the Queen not only reflects on the future of the monarchy and her own death, but also reunites all three Elizabeth actresses in one photo. So the fact that the farewell is final should be a foregone conclusion, right?

Around the series finale, there were even rumors that talks were already underway between executive production company Left Bank Pictures and Netflix about a possible sequel to “The Crown.” This could therefore be conceivable in the form of a prequel, covering the period from the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 until the marriage of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip – which, as is known, formed the starting point for ‘The Crown’. in season 1. According to the creator of the series Peter Morgan However, that won’t happen anytime soon.

‘The Crown’ creator Peter Morgan is done with palaces for now

This is what the creator of “The Crown” explained in an interview with that he is done with the setting of the series for the time being: “I am not going to write anything that takes place in a palace in the near future.” Yet Peter Morgan never says never: “I expect to miss it. Maybe later in life I’ll miss it so much that I’ll pick up the pen again. But right now there is no plan. You never rule anything out, but first of all… absolutely not.”

However, the fact that a possible sequel follows the events of the original series would still be in the future for Morgan – because he applies an iron rule: “My rule is that you shouldn’t approach events that are less than ten years old, but with this family, where people’s emotions are so intense – especially in this country – I wanted to push it up to twenty years. I wanted to make sure there was a generation between where we are now and how the series ends. So it’s still historical, even though it’s set in the 21st century.”

So if Morgan were to stick to his own rule, we would have to wait at least two years before we could expect a linear sequel and thus a 7th season of ‘The Crown’. Maybe by then Morgan will feel like dealing with palaces again…
