The main character of ‘Dark Water’, which appears quite creepy visually and especially on the soundtrack, has gathered all her courage and is trying with all her might to start a new life. These will soon not only be annoying, but even life-threatening for you and your five-year-old child.

“Dark Water” on Tele 5: that’s the story
New Yorker Dahlia (Connelly) is ready to start a new phase in her life. She just started a new job and rented a cheap apartment on tiny Roosevelt Island in the East River, between Manhattan and Queens. She finally wants to leave her failed marriage to Kyle (Scott) behind and devote herself completely to her daughter Cecilia (Ariel Gade). However, the divorce soon turns into a bitter custody battle, which her ex-husband wants to fight at all costs.
When they move into their new home, mother and child are plagued by nightmares every night. They keep hearing terrifying noises from the apartment directly above them and a black liquid continuously dripping from Cecilia’s bedroom ceiling. However, both landlord Murray (Reilly) and caretaker Mr. Veeck (Postlethwaite) claim that no one lives there. Are Dahlia and Cecilia being terrorized by ghosts? Or is there a rational explanation for the events?

‘Dark Water’ is a remake
Released in theaters in 2005, the film was directed by Brazilian director Walter Salles (“The Journey of Young Che”), who made his Hollywood debut here. “Dark Water” received mixed reviews. While several reviewers praised the successful, creepy atmosphere and Jennifer Connelly’s performance, others complained that there weren’t enough real scares for a horror-themed film.
The latter gentlemen apparently did not know the Japanese original of the same name, which served as a template for Salles and his screenwriter Rafael Yglesias (“Fearless”, “Death and the Maiden”). The work created three years earlier by ‘The Ring: The Original’ mastermind Hideo Nakata also did not use crude shock effects and relied much more on an oppressively creepy atmosphere. If you’d like to watch the model after enjoying the US version, you can easily do so via video-on-demand:
