This is what 2023 looked like, which gives hope for 2024: the evaluation

2023 is over. It was not only a challenging year in terms of global politics. Now it’s 2024: What gives you hope? We asked Watson users: these are the most common answers.

Describe your year 2023 in one word and tell us what gives you hope for 2024. The question was that simple. Within a short time, more than 500 users gave their feedback.

Many people also expressed themselves in more detail in the comment column, for example user Räuber&Lieberber:

Slightly shorter and more general, but probably suitable for many people looking at the word cloud below, user Ktwo commented:

This brings us to the individual words. The year 2023 was most often described as ‘exhausting’. That still leaves room for maneuverability as to whether it will be viewed positively or negatively overall. Secondly, it becomes clear with “Scheisse” (in all its variants, see box). After all, a simple ‘good’ follows in shared fourth place. A total of 212 different words were mentioned, 67 of which were mentioned at least twice. This is what it looks like in the cloud:

We also wanted to know what gives us hope for the new year. Unfortunately, the vast majority said ‘nothing’. Family, love, friends, children or new jobs can be found in the following places. When it comes to job prospects, we summarize ‘new job’, ‘new boss’, ‘professional challenge’ and so on.

And by the way: in addition to children, ‘children grow older’ was also mentioned twice. A lot of people can probably identify with that.
