“It’s a different universe”: Zack Snyder promises a brand new, crazy experience for the feature-length version of “Rebel Moon”

Even before the start of ‘Rebel Moon – Part 1: Child of Fire’, it was known that a longer version would also be released after the adult version, which has been available to stream on Netflix since December 22, 2023. However, this cannot simply have an extra hour of playing time. While the now-released version is subject to the strict rules of the US PG-13 rating, which prohibits too much swearing, sex and violence, the second R-rated version (the US version of an adults-only rating) has subject to significantly fewer restrictions. Snyder still doesn’t want the second version to be interpreted as an “Extended Cut.” It’s not just a version that shows more violence here and there. Instead, it’s something completely new, not comparable to previous comprehensive cuts.

The reason: all of his previous director’s cut releases were direct responses to having to cut things out of the theatrical versions. But such a process never happened with ‘Rebel Moon’, as the director said in an interview executes.

Netflix told Snyder, “Go crazy! We don’t care!”

“We always knew it would be a PG-13 movie, but deep in my heart I wanted to make an R-rated movie […] And Netflix came and said: ‘What if we say: do what you want? Do the PG version and then go all out. We do not care.’ I’ve never experienced anything like this before.”

According to Snyder’s own statement, he put so much effort into the extended cut It will be “a really crazy experience for fans because it’s this completely strange heavy metal bizzaro country movie.”

For Snyder, the upcoming second version of “Rebel Moon – Part 1: Child of Fire” is not just “another movie.” It’s like accessing an alternate universe where the R-rated version of “Rebel Moon” exists.

It is not yet known when the door to this universe will open and we will find out what the extended version, sorry for the heavy metal bizzaro landcut, of “Rebel Moon – Part 1: Child of Fire” looks like. Netflix has not yet announced a date for this.

What is already known, however, is that ‘Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scar Maker’ will be coming to Netflix on April 19, 2024 – initially in the adult version, before an alternate and longer version is added later in the sequel.
