Such situations are familiar enough in horror films and action thrillers: the main characters find themselves in a dangerous situation and then either behave completely idiotically and carelessly, or they fall into a kind of paralysis and allow the killer or the monsters to slaughter them without resistance. In the “Green Room” it is different.
Here a cashless punk band ends up in a neo-Nazi bar somewhere in the deepest hinterland of the US. And when the situation finally escalates, Pat (Anton Yelchin), Sam (Alia Shawkat), Reece (Joe Cole) and Tiger (Callum Turner) defend themselves with everything they have. They behave smartly and cleverly, find a way out, and even in such an exceptional situation, they still maintain a certain degree of control and head – which is simply incredibly refreshing.
“Green Room” is currently part of the flat-rate program Netflix to see where you can stream the movie 24/7. We have a clear recommendation for this.

The awkward situation in “Green Room” is caused by a forgotten cell phone, causing guitarist Sam to return to the bar and find a murdered groupie. The overwhelmed bouncers then lock the band in the bar’s green room (hence the film’s title), but the police have already been alerted and the situation continues to spiral out of control, which is why bar owner Darcy (Patrick Stewart) arrives finally. .
Yes, you read that right: “Star Trek” and “X-Men” star Patrick Stewart plays the lead neo-Nazi in “Green Room” who tries every possible way to cover up the murder in his bar and eliminate the unpleasant witnesses. says our 4-star review of “Green Room” by FILMSTARTS editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen.
And it is precisely these kinds of details that ensure that that the film feels as if it has been taken straight from life and the violence that explodes again and again seems all the more shocking. When things get gory in “Green Room” (and they often do), it’s not just for superficial entertainment.
‘Blue Ruin’ director Jeremy Saulnier directed his siege thriller as straightforward, effective, extremely varied suspense cinemawhich is mainly characterized by the fact that ‘Green Room’ is never interrupted by irony or weakened by a wink – an uncompromising board, exactly as it appears in the book.
