Netflix’s hit series ‘Wednesday’ is getting a spin-off. This is intended to bring Uncle Fester to the fore, reports ‘Variety’. Fester is played – as in “Wednesday” – by Fred Armisen.
His casting came as more of a surprise when the first teaser dropped in October 2022, shortly before the series debuted in early January. Armisen joins the cast of Addams Family alongside Jenna Ortega (playing Wednesday), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Lius Guzmán (Gomez) and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley).
In the ’90s ‘Addams Family’ films, Fester was played by Christopher Lloyd. Fester suddenly reappeared after being missing for decades, including in the Bermuda Triangle. As in ‘Wednesday’, Fester is the strange uncle adored by the children Wednesday and Pugsley.
However, there is no further information about the new spin-off yet. No additional cast members, plot description, or possible release date have been released.
‘Wednesday’ is one of the most watched Netflix series to date and was nominated for 12 Emmys. Including for best comedy series, Jenna Ortega for leading actress and Tim Burton for direction.
Production on the second season is expected to begin in Ireland in spring 2024. Ortega confirmed that it will “focus more on horror.” And further: “We leave out any romantic love story, which is really great. We are becoming braver and darker.”
