Acting legend thanks ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Dark Knight’: ‘They saved me’

Gary Oldman is not only one of the best and most popular actors of our time, he can now also call himself an Oscar winner thanks to his performance in the biopic ‘Darkest Hour’. But even in the work of Hollywood’s biggest stars, there are always phases when they have major problems staying afloat. This was also the case with Oldman, whose personal concerns almost led him off track.

The actor was recently a guest on the ““ and thanked the film series “Harry Potter” and “Batman”: “I thank God for Harry Potter and Batman. They really saved me because it allowed me to do the least amount of work for the most money and spend time with my kids.”

In “Harry Potter,” Gary Oldman would take on the role of Sirius Black, who was introduced in the third installment (“Prisoner of Azkaban”). In Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy (consisting of “Batman Begins”, “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises”), Oldman took on the role of Commissioner James Gordon. Two franchises that are very popular and have obviously given Gary Oldman a real boost in popularity. But why did the two rows save him now?

“At 42, I woke up divorced and had custody of my boys. That in itself was difficult because there was a change in the industry. Many productions took place in Budapest, Prague, Australia. That’s why I turned down a lot of offers.”said Oldman in conversation with Drew Barrymore. Christopher Nolan in particular should give Gary Oldman the opportunity to do his job and still be with his family:

“When we made the first Batman, London became Gotham. I made 27 round trips from Los Angeles”explains Oldman. Christopher Nolan stuck to the schedule so that Oldman could film one day and fly back to the United States the next day to care for his children. This allowed Oldman to prove that despite his major private responsibilities, he is still available and able to work.
