Living space of approximately 200 square meters, a garden of approximately 400 square meters and a small swimming pool are the cornerstones of the five-and-a-half-room house where Belinda Hochuli has been living in a magnificent location in Anglikon AG since October 2022.
He and his roommate pay 3,500 francs in rent for the architect’s house. Hochuli’s roommate, a former colleague, now has to change his place of residence due to a job change.
So many questions but no decision yet
“I can’t afford this house on my own,” the healthcare professional frankly admits. But the house is too big for him. Hochuli also believes that shared apartments make sense due to the tense situation in the housing market.
So she wants to rent a room or two and searches for suitable roommates on social media. “There was a lot of investigation but also the odd interested party. That’s why I also advertised on a housing platform,” explains Hochuli. Negotiations with relevant parties are ongoing. “Nothing has been decided yet and I am open to inquiries.”
He also leaves open the issue of whether the person moving in with him will be one or two people. What is especially important to him is that his roommates are tidy and he appreciates a well-kept, ambiant home. “Living well has always been important to me, and I lived with an architect for a long time,” says the mother of two adult sons who no longer live at home.
Affordable housing for stylish living
When he first saw the house, he was impressed by its timeless simplicity and location and did not hesitate for a moment to move from the Zurich Oberland to the canton of Aargau. “I am a nature person and thanks to the large window facades with views of the greenery, the interior almost becomes one with nature,” enthuses the Spitex employee. The neighborhood is also quite nice. This is also an important point for landlords who gave Hochuli permission to seek new tenants. Belinda Hochuli: “The owner couple are architects and have lived here for a long time. “They value the neighborhood and do not want neighborhood conflict in the future.”
As is usual with almost all tenancies, a summary of criminal record and debt enforcement information must be available when the lease is signed. The rent for just one person will be about 1,900 francs, for two people the rent will be 1,300 francs for shared use of a fully equipped and almost newly furnished detached house with its own room, a large shared bathroom and a garage and parking spaces. . Belinda Hochuli: “This was too expensive for some interested parties. If someone is looking for a small apartment, the price is usually higher, even for older apartments that lack comfort. The home community is an opportunity for people who value higher standards.”
Lack of shared flat offers for the target group
Hochuli is considering people between the ages of 40 and 60 who moved to Switzerland for professional reasons and who do not yet have many connections or are divorced. “I’m not looking for a partner. I’m in love and in a relationship. “But we live separately,” she explains with a laugh. She also rejected an elderly gentleman in poor health. The planned shared house is also not suitable for someone with young children. «I work at Spitex, but “I don’t want to be a nurse at home. A house with stairs and big windows is too dangerous for small children.”
Belinda Hochuli is of the opinion that it is difficult to find something suitable on known platforms in shared apartments, especially for this age and target group. “This seems like a gap in the market to me. There are some shared flat offers for people over 60 or students. It’s hard to look around and find things in the meantime,” she says.
Shared apartment against loneliness
Another reason why a Spitex employee wants a shared flat is loneliness. He has a good social circle, but he knows from his professional work that this is not certain. “Especially during Corona, I experienced at Spitex how many people were home alone,” he says.
Hochuli is open about how much time they will spend together in the shared apartment they plan, and who will take on which tasks in the house and garden. He is also often in the mountains with his partner, meeting friends or inviting his sons or acquaintances. “This depends on the constellation of the shared circle and is yet to be seen. This needs to evolve. I love working in the garden and I don’t expect anyone to help.” What’s more important to her than the office schedule or the obligatory community time is that the shared flat is long-term and that everyone in the house feels as comfortable as she and her cat.
