After the rigorous failure of ‘The Mummy’ with Tom Cruise, plans for the so-called discarded immediately. The original plan was to bring together the legendary monsters surrounding Frankenstein, Dracula and Co., to which the Universal studio owns the rights, in a modern, more action-packed cinematic universe. The plan isn’t really off the table yet, it’s just changed quite a bit…
Blumhouse and Universal are still taking on the iconic horror characters, just within a much smaller genre framework. The first was the successful “The Invisible Man,” in which “The Handmaid’s Tale” star Elisabeth Moss had to deal with her stalker ex. What awaits us next is a modernized adaptation of “The Wolf Man” aka “Wolf Man“.
Ryan Gosling was replaced
Originally, ‘Barbie’ star Ryan Gosling was going to play the lead role here. But no matter how great the cast seems, unfortunately nothing comes of it, although Gosling remains attached to the project as executive producer. But a top-tier replacement has already been found: “Possessor” and “Poor Things” stars Christopher Abbott is now seen as a lycanthrope. It is not yet known whether the character will also be named Larry Talbot, as in the 1941 original.
It is also not yet known what exactly it will be about – apart from the fact that a man turns into a werewolf in the light of the full moon. But genre fans can be happy with that Leigh Whannell Responsible for production and script. Not only did he do a great job with ‘The Invisible Man’, but he also impressed with the ultra-brutal sci-fi actioner ‘Upgrade’. He is also one of the creators of the ‘Saw’ series.
