American actor Andre Braugher, winner of two Emmys and star of the police comedy ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, died this Tuesday at the age of 61 after a short illness, his publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed to the American media.

Braugher (Chicago, 1962) studied at Stanford University, studied drama at the Juilliard School (New York) and became famous in 1989 with the dramatic film ‘Glory’, set in the American Civil War and winner of two Oscars. starred alongside Denzel Washington and Matthew Broderick.

Furthermore, during his path in small screen rose with Emmy thanks to the role of detective Frank Pembleton in “Murder: Life on the Street” (1993-1999) and second in the Best Miniseries category for ‘Thief’ (2006), a title that also earned him a nomination for Golden Globe.

It was in ‘Murder: Life on the Street’ that he met his wife, an actress Amy Brabsonwith whom he had sons Michael, Isaiah and John Wesley.

His legacy on television also bequeaths his role as Owen Thoreau Jr. to posterity. “Men of a Certain Age” (2009) alongside Ray Romano and Scott Bakula, giving him two nominations at the Emmys.

In recent decades, his figure gained even more influence thanks to his portrayal of Captain Raymond Holt in police comedy ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, in which he specifically participated from 2013 to 2021.

During that period, he won two awards Critic’s Choice for the best supporting actor comedy series and received four more Emmy nominations.

In addition, he was supposed to star in the series ‘Residence’, NetflixSoon.

His performance on the big screen also includes appearances in films “City of Angels” (1998), ‘Frequency’ (2000) and ‘Poseidon’ (2006).

Last year he starred in the film ‘She Said’ in which he played a newspaper editor The New York Times who supervised investigation reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohy who started the movement #Me too and the prosecution of Harvey Weinstein.
