Until now, it was certainly intended that “The Mandalorian” would continue with a fourth season. At the beginning of the year, series creator Jon Favreau revealed that he had already written the fourth season, because you needed to know where the story was going in order to plan the cohesive series like “Ahsoka.” Stunt double Brendan Wayne recently announced that he was preparing for the fourth season. But now that plan may have changed.
At least that is what the usually well-informed insider reports on his podcast . He makes it clear that it currently appears that the fourth season will be replaced by a movie. This could be a response to the recent strikes in Hollywood, which completely disrupted all studios’ plans for 2023.
Another “Star Wars” movie soon?
Sneider goes even further. He expects that the film was made very quickly and even before that it was also called “Star Wars 10“ project with Daisy Ridley as Rey appears.
Lucasfilm and Disney have announced three more ‘Star Wars’ theatrical dates so far – for May 2026, December 2026 and December 2027. Even if there are still no official statements about which film project is behind which date, it is believed that the continuation of the Skywalker film Saga in which Rey rebuilds the Jedi Order, will be released in May 2026.

A ‘The Mandalorian’ movie would be released sooner (possibly in 2025) to replace the fourth season of the series. It would then be a fourth ‘Star Wars’ project for the cinema.
What speaks for and against the rumor?
But wait. Shouldn’t there already be a ‘Mandalorian’ movie? Something like that. As is known, Dave Filoni is working on a film that will bring together and conclude all the storylines of the so-called Mandoverse. But this film is still in the future, because until then there is still a lot to tell: the fourth season of “The Mandalorian” and a second season of “Ahsoka” are planned in advance.
But with this film by Filoni we are also in the middle of the reasons for and against the rumor. If a ‘smaller’ ‘Mandalorian’ film were to be released now, it would potentially diminish the event value of the Filoni film.
Above all The question naturally arises as to the reasons for such a change of plans. Didn’t Favreau say well before the strike that he had already written the fourth season? Why then would the strike lead to a reconsideration? It would be new work to make a movie from episode scripts!
However, keep in mind that when writing series there can be very different phases in the writing process. You can first write the entire story for a season, then divide these elements into episodes in a second step and create the individual scripts. Favreau may have only referred to the first step in his February 2023 statements. After all, it was always a matter of knowing the whole story before “Ahsoka” and Co. were created.

The strike could have happened here. As the strike continued, it was impossible for him to turn the overall plot into individual episodes. Perhaps now it will be easier and faster to turn the story into a feature film instead of writing scripts for eight episodes.
The rumor is of course not without foundation. There might be something in it. But it’s still important: It’s just a rumor for now!
