It should come as no surprise that the role-playing hit “Baldur’s Gate 3” has been named Video Game of the Year. During a star-studded gala for the 2023 Game Awards, the game from Belgium’s Larian Studios won the top prize in Los Angeles.
But the game was also declared the winner in other categories. “Baldur’s Gate 3” took first place in multiplayer games, role-playing games and “Best Community Support”.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is set in a fantasy world of witches, fairies, elves, dwarves and similar mythical creatures, in which players can take on their own personal roles.
“The Larian team has given their heart and soul to this game for six years, sometimes under very difficult circumstances,” said company boss Swen Vincke when receiving the award.
“Baldur’s Gate 3” was developed during the Corona period, said Vincke, who, because of his appearance, wore armor that one of the game’s characters wears.
Video games such as “Alan Wake 2” and “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” won in other categories such as “Best Action Adventure” or “Best Story”.
The Game Awards are considered the world’s most important awards in the games industry. The ceremony in Los Angeles was attended by Hollywood stars Matthew McConaughey and Timothée Chalamet, among others.
After the event, Larian Studios made a surprising announcement: “Baldur’s Gate 3” is now also available for Xbox Series X and S owners. Until now, the title was only playable on PC and PlayStation 5.
