Meditation is now known to the general public and is also becoming widespread in Switzerland and is considered a technique for feeling better. But this wasn’t always the case. «When I started meditating myself, it seemed quite strange to me, depending on the environments I was in. People were now wondering whether I belonged to a sect,” says Stefan Lang, a Buddhist teacher from Bern.

The wider acceptance of meditation today is also related to research. “There is now a huge amount of research on meditation: you can assume that there are around 1000 scientific studies on the subject every year,” says Ulrich Ott, a psychologist and meditation researcher at the University of Giessen in Germany.

Does meditation really bring so much peace, serenity and concentration, or is it all just your imagination? How can we explore meditations? What don’t we know about this yet? So where are the risks and dangers here? We explore these questions in this “From start to finish” section.
