‘101 Dalmatians’ ends at 9 minutes and 30 seconds: Did the makers of the Disney classic sleep here?

“101 Dalmatians” is one of the biggest and most popular Disney classics, and also one of the mouse company’s first animated films to receive a live-action remake: the live-action version was released in 1996, starring an eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close embodies the fur-obsessed antagonist Cruella De Vil, who wants to obtain the collars or fur of the spotted dogs.

However, this article is about the 1961 animated original: Most of you probably saw the film in your childhood – and certainly didn’t notice that, despite all the attention to detail, the artists made a mistake or two. This is of course more than bearable, but it is true An error is especially noticeable once you discover it, because it concerns a detail that plays a major role in the scene in question.

This scene is what it’s about

You probably remember the scene where Roger Radcliffe is walking through the park with his Dalmatian Pongo and the dog suddenly pulls wildly on the leash. The reason: he has smelled the Dalmatian lady Perdita, who is also relaxing with her owner Anita in the green surroundings of London.

To inform Anita and Perdita of this, Pongo uses a trick: he steals his master’s hat and places it next to Anita on the park bench. However, she barely lets herself be distracted from reading her book – and the next moment she simply disappears with her dog.

Pongo then runs after her, dragging the hatless Roger with him and running around them so that they get tangled in his belt. Roger is ashamed of the situation and wants to apologize to his future wife – by taking off his hat!

Did the hat outside the photo fly back onto his head, did he get it back himself in a split second – or were the illustrators just asleep? The most likely is probably the latter – In 9 minutes and 30 seconds you can get your own picture of the confusing hat moment, which we have captured again for you here:

‘101 Dalmatians’ ends at 9 minutes and 30 seconds: Did the makers of the Disney classic sleep here?

Of course, this small mistake does not detract from the enjoyment and popularity of the film! “101 Dalmatians” spawned a direct-to-video sequel in 2003, and the live action remake also continued with “102 Dalmatians.” In 2021, a prequel was released in cinemas, which is all about the villain ‘Cruella’, now played by Emma Stone.
