“I wasn’t ready”: that’s why Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the role of Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars.”

There are actors who simply no longer need to be introduced. One of them is Leonardo DiCaprio (“Django Unchained”). The Oscar-winning actor for ‘The Revenant’ is now one of the best actors and most famous faces in the dream factory. His name alone is enough to draw people to the cinemas. There are only a handful of other stars who can make similar claims.

It’s very hard to imagine that Leonardo DiCaprio could be an EVEN bigger star. But perhaps it would have been possible if he had not turned down the main role in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy “Star Wars”. As DiCaprio did in an interview with explained, Lucas offered him to play Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” and “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”:

“I had a meeting with George Lucas. I wasn’t ready for it”DiCaprio said in the conversation. Anakin Skywalker, who would eventually play Hayden Christensen, could take on some of the major roles that DiCaprio rejected in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

For example, in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever” he would play Robin. The role was eventually taken over by Chris O’Donnell. In an unrealized James Cameron ‘Spider-Man’ movie, DiCaprio was cast as the eponymous superhero. The series was ultimately directed by Sam Raimi and starred DiCaprio’s best friend Tobey Maguire.

So far we haven’t seen DiCaprio in a major fantasy franchise, although the actor has only appeared in major Hollywood productions since ‘Titanic’. In the same interview, DiCaprio explained that it was not out of the question for him to one day become involved in superhero cinema: “I haven’t done it yet, but I wouldn’t rule it out.” This way you can stay enthusiastic!
