On October 6, 2023, Canadian rapper Drake released his new album called “For All the Dogs”. “Polar Opposites” is the closing song of this album, for which the video clip has now been released. The song is about the complexities of modern relationships and personal introspection. But the video mainly focuses on something else: Albania.

Albania celebrates its Independence Day every year on November 28. It cannot be a coincidence that Drake releases a video clip a day later for which he chooses a special item of clothing: a red jacket with the national symbol of Albania – the double-headed eagle – on the back. Historically, the eagle has been considered a symbol of Albania’s rebellion against the Ottoman Empire.

The clip also shows a group of suspected Albanian men with whom Drake plays pool and poker. These men also wear the same red bomber jacket with the black eagle.

These Albanian men star in Drake's new music video.

Drake also indirectly mentions Albania in the lyrics. A lyric in the song reads: “I don’t know how they do things in Pristina / I just know the tension is building.” »). Drake is referring to the ongoing crisis between Albania and Serbia in northern Kosovo.

Under the video clip, Albanian fans in particular express their joy and gratitude that Drake gives Albania so much respect with the video.

A fan responds: «This is like a gift from Drake to all Albanians worldwide who wish us: Happy Independence Day 🇦🇱🇦🇱 Thank you Drake!» So in German: “This is like a gift from Drake to all Albanians around the world, wishing us a happy Independence Day. Thanks Drake!”

Instead, there’s more confusion on X, formerly Twitter. Many users are wondering what Drake suddenly has to do with Albania.

One user theorizes that an Albanian woman may have broken Drake’s heart. Another asks someone to check on Drake, implying that Drake is probably not feeling well.

Drake himself has not yet commented on the reasons for the music video and his appreciation for Albania that is clearly reflected in it.
