“It has the potential to be the best-studied planetary system that we know of,” Hugh Osborn of the University of Bern said in response to a question from the Keystone-SDA news agency on Wednesday. The astrophysicist played an important role in the discovery of the planetary system.

The feature of this system is the resonance chain: six planets two to three times the size of the Earth revolve around their star in perfect harmony. “So we know that the system has remained largely unchanged since its creation more than a billion years ago,” Osborn explained. From here we can draw conclusions about the formation of planets.

In addition, the star of the system is brighter than previously discovered systems, making it easier to study. (SDA)
