Museums and attractions

  • Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper: The Italian painter’s frescoes were commissioned by Duke Ludovico Sforza of Milan between 1494 and 1498 and are considered the highlight of his artistic oeuvre. The Last Supper was created using the delicate plaster technique. In order to protect it from environmental influences, only a limited number of people are allowed to admire the work every day. The Last Supper is located in the Cenacolo Vinciano Museum. Tickets must be ordered in advance.
  • Novecento Museum: The Museum of Modern Art demonstrates the diversity of styles and artistic movements in Italy, in dialogue with other European artists of the 21st century. Previously the building was known as Palazzo dell’Arengario and was dedicated to fascist art. Today, the museum critically examines the role of art in fascist Italy and sheds light on the resistance of other, especially socialist, art movements. The highlights of the exhibition are the avant-garde works of Lucio Fontana, who created a sensation with his sectional photographs.
  • Sforza Castle: In 1450, Francesco Sforza I commissioned Italy’s best architects, including Da Vinci, to build a castle on the ruins of the old castle of the Visconti family. Since then the castle has been one of Milan’s landmarks. There is also a museum in the meticulously restored towered castle. There is also a private collection of handicrafts and musical instruments, as well as paintings dating from the 15th to the 18th centuries.
  • Milan Triennial: The design and art museum in Parco Sempione reflects Milan’s architectural identity in the cycle of destruction and reconstruction and addresses the importance of art in daily life.
  • Palazzo di Brera: The impressive baroque castle is considered an important center for history, science, art and culture. In addition to its lush greenery and magnificent architecture, Pinacoteca di Brera houses one of Italy’s most important Renaissance collections.
  • Palazzo Reale: The royal palace fascinates with its history: the Habsburgs once ruled from here. The Palazzo is just a stone’s throw from the Duomo and the Museo del Novecento. Modern and contemporary art is also displayed, as well as classical interior design commissioned by Empress Maria Theresa.
  • Teatro alla Scala: Italy, the birthplace of opera, has incredible appeal for musicians and music lovers around the world. Built in the classical style favored by Empress Maria Theresa, the Milan opera house is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. In order not to miss this unique opportunity, you must make a reservation in advance.
  • Night visit to Chiesa San Sepolcro cemetery: Chiesa, Milan’s oldest underground church, is located beneath San Sepolcro. The tomb was identified by Leonardo da Vinci as the original center of the city. After a long break of 50 years, Cripta San Sapolcro reopened to the public and became the only attraction in Milan open only at night. Medieval architecture from 1030 is on display, as well as contemporary artists.
