With ‘Napoleon’, Ridley Scott (‘Blade Runner’) recently brought a visually stunning historical epic to cinemas – and not only largely satisfied the critics, but also made an impression at the box office. The British veteran is currently working on his next film: ‘Gladiator 2’. This is the sequel to the 2000 classic with Russell Crowe, which was announced years ago.
However, Crowe will no longer be seen in the leading role, but Paul Mescal, who was nominated for an Oscar for ‘Aftersun’. Here he takes on the role of Lucius, whom we already met as the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) in the first ‘Gladiator’. At the time, the 12-year-old was played by Spencer Treat Clark. In an interview with Ridley Scott has now spoken a bit about Lucius in “Gladiator 2.”

“He was in the wilderness. He has lost connection with his mother. His mother has lost contact with him. She doesn’t know where he is. She thinks he might be dead.”Scott said in the conversation. It is important to take into account that there are more than 15 years between ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Gladiator 2’ in which a lot seems to have happened. Last but not least, Lucius will also be deeply affected by the death of his idol Maximus (Crowe).
