“Not What I Expected”: Daisy Ridley Comments on the Story of “Star Wars 10”

In April 2023, the creative minds behind the galactic franchise gathered for the Star Wars Celebration and surprised fans with the announcement of three films. In addition to an expansion of ‘The Mandalorian’ storyline and a film about the origins of the Jedi, there will also be a new film starring Jedi Rey (Daisy Ridley), who was already central to the ‘Star Wars’ sequel trilogy, so it will be something like will be like “Star Wars 10” (even if the title, which has not yet been determined, will eventually be different). While the strikes in Hollywood recently prevented actors from talking about their projects in more detail, Daisy Ridley has now made her first statements about “Star Wars 10“.

During the promotional tour of her film ‘The Awakening of the Huntress’, Ridley was greeted, among other things asked about the new developments in the “Star Wars” universe. The actress explained that she herself did not expect a new story about Rey and just a few months before the Star Wars Celebration she announced to the press that she would not be involved in any new films in the franchise.

The plan of Kathleen Kennedy and her teams at Lucasfilm and Disney quickly captivated her – especially because she was pleasantly surprised by the film’s story: “I’m very happy. The story is really cool. I’m still waiting to read the script, so obviously I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very happy with it.”

Daisy Ridley only knows the story of a new ‘Star Wars’ movie

Fans were also curious about Lucasfilm and Disney’s announcement, whether the planned film with Rey would result in an entirely new trilogy or stand alone. Ridley can’t answer this question yet because she only knows the story for a new “Star Wars” comic featuring Rey:

“I know the storyline of a film. That doesn’t mean there won’t be more, but that’s all I’ve been told. I think this will be the next movie too. I’m not sure how quickly things can resume after the strike. But yes, so far I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited about it!”

Daisy Ridley also addresses the rumors about which of the three announced “Star Wars” films will be the first to reach international theaters. That was already assumed in advance that “Star Wars 10” should be released in theaters in May 2026, which appeared some time ago in Lucasfilm and Disney’s plan.

Recently, a report circulated about screenwriter Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”) that the deadline for his “Star Wars 10” script would be approaching Thanksgiving. So we can hope that “Star Wars 10” can keep the spring 2026 date.

This is what ‘Star Wars 10’ is about

Even though details about the story of “Star Wars 10” are scarce so far and Ridley isn’t shedding much more light on this, it has already been reported that that the film is set approximately 15 years after the events of “Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker” is located. In it, Daisy Ridley’s Rey is supposed to rebuild the Jedi Order and act as a mentor to younger Force-sensitives. Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who recently directed the MCU series “Ms. Marvel” took his place in the director’s chair.
