In recent years, Nicolas Cage (“Leaving Las Vegas”) has been one of the actors whose art has often been completely misunderstood. Not only was he reduced to the overacting he had practiced since the beginning of his career. His preference for free-spinning was repeatedly interpreted negatively. The fact is that his acting zeal has often improved otherwise quite bad films.
However, the general public has now largely realized how great and diverse Nicolas Cage is. Films such as ‘Mandy’, ‘Pig’, ‘The Color from Space’ and ‘Renfield’ were responsible for this. That is why many are also looking forward to his new film “Dream Scenario”, which now finally has a release date in German cinemas.
“Dream Scenario” will be shown in German cinemas from February 8, 2024.
That’s what the ‘Dream Scenario’ is about
“Dream Scenario” is all about Professor Paul Matthews (Cage), who one day discovers that he is appearing in the dreams of others at an exponential rate. Like his existence in reality, his presence in these dreams is more than banal: he is just there, staring unconcernedly at the fantasies and nightmares of strangers.
The result is that Paul becomes famous overnight and soon gets the attention he has longed for. But when Paul meets a young woman in whose dreams he plays a much more active role, everything changes. Suddenly, his dream self turns violent and the humanity that had just worshiped him sees him with completely different eyes…
One of the best Nicolas Cage films
Our author and self-proclaimed Nicolas Cage fan and defender Björn Becher could already see ‘Dream Scenario’ in Los Angeles, as the satire by ‘Sick Of Myself’ creator Kristoffer Borgli had already premiered in cinemas there. The film is a real highlight that fits seamlessly with the Cage hits of recent years – the official FILMSTARTS review gave it a solid 4 out of 5 possible stars.
Critics praised not only Nicolas Cage’s understated performance, but also Borgli’s almost documentary style, which draws the audience straight into the action. The conclusion of the meeting is as follows: “Nicolas Cage is great as a professor who is initially happy to appear in the dreams of strangers, only to eventually submit to fate: ‘I am your nightmare!’”
