The Centovalli Railway connecting Piedmont to Ticino celebrates its 100th anniversary.

The white and blue Centovallibbahn passes through 83 bridges and 31 tunnels connecting Domodossola in Piedmont with Ticino. It is considered an engineering masterpiece, but it took 25 years from the first idea to its implementation.

At the beginning of its history there was a visionary politician: Francesco Balli, Mayor of Locarno from 1896 to 1913, who wanted to promote tourism in the inner city with the construction of the Centovalli Railway and create a connection to the Simplon Line.
