New “Karate Kid” movie planned with Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio

Both already appeared in ‘Karate Kid’ films, but now Jackie Chan (69) and Ralph Macchio (62) play together for the first time in a new edition.

The two actors announced a new “Karate Kid” project in a video message on Tuesday (local time). At the same time, the duo announced that a global search for a young talent would now begin. The studio Sony Pictures is looking for an actor between the ages of 15 and 17 with martial arts knowledge. Director Jonathan Entwistle plans to release the film in theaters in December 2024.

Macchio played the role of teenager Daniel LaRusso, who defends himself against rivals through karate training, in three ‘Karate Kid’ films in the 1980s. “Rush Hour” star Jackie Chan played a wise teacher who teaches self-defense to a young student (Jaden Smith) in the 2010 reboot of “Karate Kid.” (sda/dpa/meg)
