Microwave often makes our lives easier as it heats food in record time. Not only can you reheat previously cooked food, in some cases you can even bake or grill a new meal. But there are some foods that definitely don’t belong in the microwave. The heat of the microwave is not enough for every meal. This is especially true for foods that need to be fully cooked for hygienic reasons.

one

meat or fish

Foods that should never be heated raw in the microwave are meat and fish. The device cannot heat food evenly and therefore dangerous pathogens can survive. To prepare it, it is better to use a grill, pan or oven.

But it’s not just raw meat that shouldn’t be reheated. Likewise, it is not recommended to heat pre-cooked chicken in the microwave. The problem: change in protein structures and dangerous salmonella. Bacteria multiply when chicken is stored. These may still be present even after heating in the microwave. If you don’t want to throw away the leftovers, you can heat the meat evenly in the pan.

2

Egg

Whether scrambled, fried or boiled, eggs have no place in the microwave. As in chicken, protein structures change and the stomach can no longer break down proteins. It is best to prepare egg dishes only fresh. Dishes containing eggs should only be heated at high temperatures. Raw eggs can explode in the microwave.

3

Mushrooms

Reheating mushrooms in the microwave is not recommended. If you keep cooked mushrooms in the refrigerator for more than a day, toxins can form in them. There is a risk of having diarrhea or feeling sick. However, you can still reheat the mushrooms if you leave them in the refrigerator for a day or less. Mushrooms must be heated at high temperatures. However, under no circumstances should sponges be heated a second time in the microwave.

spinach

Spinach contains a lot of nitrates, so you should not heat it in the microwave. Because nitrate is then converted into nitrite. The body does not tolerate this nitrogen compound well and may respond to it with nausea or diarrhea. As with mushrooms, you can still reheat the dish if it has not been stored in the refrigerator for more than a day. Spinach should also be heated at high temperature and should not be microwaved a second time.

5

rice

Cooked rice provides a breeding ground for bacteria when left at room temperature for long periods of time. Even the heat from the microwave cannot kill bacteria. To prevent food poisoning, you should put cooked rice in the refrigerator immediately after cooking. In this way, bacterial growth can be easily prevented. To be on the safe side, you should only heat the rice in the microwave on high.

6

Fatty and fried foods

Be careful, you take a big risk if you heat the oil in the microwave. Pure oil or frying oil can ignite and start a fire. Additionally, a grease or oil fire cannot be extinguished with water alone. You should also be careful with very fatty foods and fried foods: If the oil gets too hot, dangerous gases can be produced while heating.
