Earlier this year it was announced that Disney was working on a live-action remake of Moana. Dwayne Johnson (“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”) will reprise his role as the demigod Maui. In 2016 he lent his voice to this character in the very successful animated film. ‘Hamilton’ creator Thomas Kail is directing the live-action adaptation.
Johnson appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and revealed that the Moana remake will be the next film in which he will star. While the superstar once again made it clear how excited he was to start working on the work, he also didn’t miss the opportunity to sing a song to get in the mood. This is the hit “You’re Welcome”, which he also performed in the 2016 film:

The fact that Dwayne Johnson is now working on ‘Moana’ also means that other projects will have to remain in the background for the time being. Including the ‘Fast & Furious’ spin-off ‘Hobbs & Reyes’, in which the muscle mountain has to deal with Jason Momoa. That this spin-off was coming was announced by the post-credits scene in ‘Fast X’. It’s still unclear when production will begin and how exactly it will fit into the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise.
The fact is: according to his own statement, Dwayne Johnson will next appear on camera for ‘Moana’. It remains to be seen whether the live-action remake will ultimately achieve the same success as the animated original. Many fans were less than enthusiastic about the announcement of the new edition, which ultimately had to do with the fact that Auli’li Carvalho will no longer be taking on the role of Moana. It is not yet known who will take the lead role instead.
