New on Netflix this week: An insane horror highlight and the series version of a cult film

An overview of Netflix highlights is especially useful for the coming week. It’s really full of new releases and not because the streaming service has reacquired a lot of catalog goods. No, on average several completely new titles are released every day.

We have fought our way through the offer and, as you know from us every week, selected the titles that sound particularly promising and/or are likely to interest many of you. Be here the Netflix highlights for the week of November 13 to 19, 2023:

Monday: the calm before the storm

For all the talk about how many titles there are this week, no promising new addition to the streaming service’s lineup has been announced for Monday. It’s almost as if Netflix wants to give you a moment to take a deep breath before things really get going.

Tuesday: Lots of mafia, a “Game Of Thrones” star and horror with rockers

How to become a mafia boss Of course, it doesn’t really explain how you can quickly start a new career and quickly become the head of your own mafia clan. Just like in its predecessors ‘How To Become A Tyrant’ and ‘How To Become A Cult Leader’, there is a satirical look back at prominent personalities. After dictators and cult leaders, these are now the most notorious mafia bosses in the world. This is hosted by “Game Of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage, who leads the series as narrator in the original English version.

The Italian political thriller series is also about the mafia Suburraeterna, which expands the world of criminals after three seasons of “Suburra.” Meanwhile, a change of sides takes place Code of crime the third new Netflix series of the day. The focus here is on a special unit of the Brazilian police who are asked for support after a spectacular robbery in Paraguay.

In addition to all brand new in-house series, Netflix also has a new film in its portfolio that was previously shown in cinemas. In Studio 666 the Foo Fighters must face evil. Because the villa in which Dave Grohl and Co. wants to record a new album, is possessed by dark demons.

Wednesday: Another rock star

There won’t be as much action and horror on Wednesday as there was on Tuesday. But the rock star theme from “Studio 666” is carried over. In the Polish series Film tear An ex-rock star whose drug addiction destroyed his life and career desperately searches for his missing son.

The other new Netflix series of the day, on the other hand, promises humor. In ‘Crashing Eid’, Razan is surprised when her fiancé suddenly appears with her family, just in time for the sacrificial feast. Can she convince her conservative Saudi family that British-Pakistani Sameer is really the love of her life?

Thursday: Start of the final round of “The Crown”

One of the most prestigious Netflix series of recent years has been confirmed The crown. But Windsor’s retelling of the lives of Elizabeth II and the British royal family is slowly coming to an end. The final sixth season will be available from Thursday – at least the first part with four episodes, the focus of which will be entirely on Diana (Elizabeth Debicki). The second part of the sixth season will follow on December 14, 2024 with six more episodes.

As is known, Netflix does a lot in the field of Christmas films. There is also sufficient supply this year. In Best. Christmas. Ever! Heather Graham and “American Pie” star Jason Biggs are among those involved. When two families meet, the question arises as to whether one of them is truly living the absolute perfect life that the others should be jealous of. The director is Mary Lambert, who once taught us how to be creepy with ‘Cemetery of the Stuffed Animals’, but is now successful as a Christmas film director at Netflix. In 2021 she gave us “A Castle For Christmas”.

As of today, Netflix also has the comedy that hit theaters in 2019 Suddenly family starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne as a couple who adopt three foster children at the same time (including Isabela Merced).

Friday: Scott Pilgrim and many films

The big highlight on Friday for many Netflix subscribers will be the brightly colored anime series Scott Pilgrim leaves are. After the movie ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the Rest of the World’ became a cult, the story of musician Scott, who falls head over heels in love with the mysterious Ramona, is now being retold. However, it sticks better to the comic template. The highlight: in the original version, many of the actors from back then can be heard speaking again. Stars such as Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, as well as Chris Evans, Brie Larson and Aubrey Plaza, participate.

For film lovers, Netflix has a whole range of new titles in its program today. While the romantic road movie See you on Venus – My journey to you Now that Virginia Gardner (“Fall”) can be pre-purchased and rented on VoD from Amazon, iTunes and Co., the other films are even brand new:

The sequel promises hard action Believers 2, in which a drug investigator continues his hunt for a powerful cartel boss. In Nouveau Empire Is an imposter trying to kidnap a young Kryptonian millionaire – or will his so-called romance soon become a reality? And above all, there is the biopic of Barack and Michelle Obama Rustin about the gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. He organized the legendary “March on Washington,” which culminated in Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. A promising Oscar candidate!

Saturday: Horror can be so crazy

Coming on the weekend Evil to Netflix (after previously subscribing to Amazon Prime Video) and what can we say: the latest horror film from James Wan (“Saw”) really offended a lot of people – for the author of these lines and a few other members of the editorial team of FILMSTARTS, however, considers him one of the best representatives of the genre in recent years. Therefore: Be sure to check it out for yourself – without much prior knowledge. That’s why we don’t want to reveal anything else about this truly crazy, crazy and visually unique horror trip.

Sunday: The calm after the storm

Netflix hasn’t announced any really promising new titles for the last day of the week, but that shouldn’t be a problem. Many watchlists will probably already be well filled after the previous days.
