Even if opinions differ on whether ‘Paranormal Activity’ is a strong, chilling horror or just plain boring, you just have to let the box office result melt in your mouth: with a budget of 15,000 dollars (!) Found Footage horror 2009’s grossed a whopping $194 million worldwide. A groundbreaking result.
The two sequels, “Paranormal Activity 2” and “Paranormal Activity 3,” had a significantly higher budget of $3 and $5 million, but should also perform brilliantly at the box office: While Part 2 earned over $177 million, Part 3 ultimately earned as much as $207 million. This makes the third entry in the now seven-part franchise also the most successful film in the entire series.

“Paranormal Activity 2” takes place two months after the first part: Kristi (Sprague Grayden), Katie’s (Katie Featherston) sister, has just given birth. She, her husband Dan (Brian Boland) and his daughter Ali (Molly Ephraim) are very happy with the new family member. But then the housekeeper Martine (Vivis Cortez) claims that an evil spirit is wandering through the house. The family does not take these warnings seriously. When one day the entire house is destroyed, people initially assume it is vandalism, but the demonic activity has only just begun.
“Paranormal Activity 3”: The history of the mysterious events surrounding Katie and her lover is told here. Kristi wants to get to the bottom of why the demon chose her and Katie. Watching video footage from her 1980s childhood, Katie soon realizes that Katie has ensnared her sister in a fateful ritual that has horribly changed their future. Lured by the children, the demon begins his invisible but devilish game.
