In the meantime, Louis Leterrier has his hands full bringing the action saga ‘Fast & Furious’ to a satisfying conclusion for fans of the series. The Paris-born filmmaker was no stranger to blockbuster cinema. He was also responsible for directing ‘The Incredible Hulk’, ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘The Incredibles – Now You See Me’.
If Louis Leterrier had had his way, he would have happily helmed a ‘Star Wars’ series. On the podcast hosted by Josh Horrowitz Happy sad confused the director has now spoken about it, that he not only would have liked to join the ‘Star Wars’ universe, but had even specifically spoken to Lucasfilm a few years ago about possible projects:
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett took center stage
“I had my dream Star Wars idea a long time ago. I went to Lucafilm and suggested to them, ‘We should make a ‘Star Wars’ series based on ‘Lone Wolf And Cub’. I wanted to do the missing part before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, before Obi-Wan takes on Luke. And they said, ‘We don’t know if this is a good idea.’ I really wanted to do it. I was also very interested in making a Boba Fett movie.
As we now know, Louis Leterrier was unable to implement his ideas. However, “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” a series that debuted on Disney+ last year, covers exactly the period Leterrier would have liked to cover. It is unknown whether Leterrier actually wanted to tell his story with Obi-Wan. According to Leterrier’s own statement in the podcast, he doesn’t care that the concepts at Lucasfilm and Disney were subsequently developed without him and with other personnel.
And a project “Boba Fett” was also implemented, not as a film, but as a series: “The Book of Boba Fett”. Boba Fett will likely be back in the planned ‘Mandalorian’ movie, directed by Dave Filoni. It is still unclear when the film will start. More about the project can be found here:
